"Fluid Depths" Solo Exhibition

featuring new works by
Katy Richards
March 17, 2017 to May 6, 2017

Richards’ recent body of oil paintings are focused on life under water. She emphasizes the sensual and slippery qualities of oil paint, connecting it with imagery and color inspired by elusive creatures found in the sea.

Her recent reference to underwater life refers back to some earlier works of fleshy subject matters, floating between imagery that can be viewed as both beautiful and grotesque.

Similar to peering beneath the surface of water, objects within these new paintings flicker between the familiar and the indiscernible. Representation is both informed and lost in this sea of fluids, creating subjects in her paintings that are in flux between emerging and dissipating.

This exhibit will open Friday, March 17 5-9pm and will be on view through May 6, 2017. Gallery hours are Tuesday-Friday 11a-5p, evenings and weekends by appointment and every Third Friday of the month 11a-9p.
