CATHIE BLECK

Cathie Bleck, an internationally respected artist is best known for her distinctive works in scratchboard and kaolin clay board. Her stylized forms are cut through inks and handmade pigments, revealing the white of the kaolin clay beneath. It is a process similar in concept to woodblock printing.

After earning her BFA, and a subsequent distinguished alumna award at the University of Illinois; and after a successful illustration career,
Cathie Bleck’s publisher monograph “Open Spaces” (2006), followed by two solo museum exhibitions at The Butler and The New Britain Museums of American Art. Bleck’s work, at various unrestricted scales, in ink, clay-pigments and graphite, explore interconnected forms and transformative symbols, derived from a rich engagement with the natural world. Her work has been exhibited extensively, including recent Chicago shows “Immersion” (2019), “Avance” (2017), “frAGILITY” (2013). Her work is in the Victoria and Albert Museum in London.
