Artists Jessica Pinsky and Will Grimm examine identity and lived experiences through the language of textile in a two person exhibition, Reconnections, opening at HEDGE Gallery this July. Several larger scale works make up this exhibit, including a monumental double weaving by Pinsky, the artist’s most ambitious work to date.
Jessica Pinsky’s recent work draws from her experience as a mother and queer woman. She uses embedded images and color patterns from her children’s drawings as inspiration and inlay techniques which manipulate threads, disrupting the grid of warp and weft. Pinsky focuses on using natural fiber because of its connection to skin and tissue, and relationship to human experience and memory.
Pinsky is currently the Executive Director at Praxis Fiber Workshop in Cleveland, OH and teaches adjunct classes at the Cleveland Institute of Art. Her work has been widely exhibited nationally, and internationally at Merkaz Gallery in Jerusalem, Israel.
Will Grimm’s fiber work is rooted in the traditions of stitching, dyeing, and weaving. His practice emphasizes improvisational techniques and labor-intensive processes that center personal storytelling and material intuition. Grimm’s practice is anchored in a belief that textiles are not only vessels for safety, but also powerful tools for reflection, connection, and community; he often refers to his pieces as diary entries.
Grimm is a current MFA Candidate in Fiber at Tyler School of Art and Architecture in Philadelphia, PA. His work has been exhibited nationally in Baltimore, Cleveland, and San Diego, and featured in publications such as Fiber Art Now, Curated Quilts, and BMoreArt.
Reconnections will be on view July 16 - August 30, 2025.
