Parallax is a drawing on paper, featuring one of Matthew Gallagher’s intricately designed pen and ink grids, completed in 2020. The grid-like pattern is hand drawn with several different colors of ink, which is then manipulated with isopropyl alcohol. The artist carefully pours the alcohol onto the paper in specific sections to warp the lines, creating what appears to be a three dimensional field of blurred color and abstract shapes.
The palette for this drawing is mainly blue and deep violet color hues, which offers an energetic energy into any home or office environment.
Matthew Gallagher is a multi disciplinary artist who uses paint, ink, encaustic, and natural materials to map the expression of his physical processes. Gallagher reveals properties of our environment that wouldn’t otherwise be apparent, empowering people to experiment and play with their own surroundings. Their thought-provoking work can be found in many private and permanent collections in Northeast Ohio and nationally. Gallagher graduated from Oberlin College in 2013, and currently works in their Cleveland art and performance studio.
