"Nikki Woods is an artist whose work depicts a range of subject matter from playboy bunnies, to ghosts and mythical creatures. A lover of art history and pop culture, Woods’ lush, improvisational paintings are both romantic and cutting. “Hare in the Grass” pays homage to other historical paintings of hares and rabbits, often used as a symbol of vitality, sexual desire, and fertility. In this depiction, the hare is struggling to emerge from a fantastic abundance of foliage, leaping through absurdly scaled flowers twice the size of its own head. At first glance, it appears to be a bucolic image, but with more time a sense of tension emerges."
Nikki Woods creates expressive paintings of highly decorative and decadent landscapes, objects, and centerpieces where images and material merge in and out of states of visual and psychological slippage. Woods’ lush color palette and painterly mark making creates visual sensations on her canvases. She received a BFA from The Cleveland Institute of Art, is currently the director of Reinberger Gallery at CIA. Her work is in many private and public collections, including the Progressive Art Collection.
