Riverbed is a silk shibori hanging textile piece by artist Rebecca Cross. It is created by hand dying raw silk, and encasing objects (in this piece, river rocks) within the silk as the dye dries. After the piece is dry, the objects are released, creating permanent three dimensional texture within the textile. Cross is well known for her silk shibori method, and her pieces reflect a meditative beauty and elegant structure in any contemporary setting.
Rebecca Cross is a textile based artist who employs the traditional techniques of Japanese shibori, a shape and color resist immersion dye process. She works primarily in silk, creating wall installations and three dimensional sculptures. Her work is strong and delicate, translating the permanence of beauty and the persistence of memory. Cross is a graduate of Oberlin College and Kent State University. Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally and is featured in many print publications.
